Company History

UrbanGrid Australia is one of Western Australia’s leading utility contractors; delivering timely, innovative and value-for-money solutions.

UrbanGrid Australia was established in 1998 as Across & Under Horizontal Boring and is a family owned and operated company.

Since inception, the Company has continued to grow and expand to service all major utility service providers in both the metropolitan and regional areas of Western Australia.

The company has been built on being client-focused, going the extra distance to deliver to a high standard, and meeting all expectations.

Key Milestones:

1998 Commenced Business

Commenced services for telecommunications, gas, power and water industries, including as approved Telstra contractor.

2003 Expanding Services

Secured first gas contract encompassing residential and commercial service laying. Expanded with Telstra to include full scope of network services.

2006 Delivering Major Telecommunications Projects

Introduced horizontal directional drilling; expanded telecommunications services to Telstra Optus, Vodafone, and others.

2009 Optus Network Installation

Engaged by Optus to install over 100kms of new network services.

2011 Vodafone's 'Black Spot' Programme

Installed over 40kms of infrastructure as part of the 'Black Spot' network improvement. This six-month project was delivered on time and on budget to strict milestones due to failing services.

2012 Secured Compass North

Secured Compass North With ATCO Gas Australia - the first contract of its kind within the industry including all related services for upgrade and ongoing maintenance.

2013 Expanded to service Regional areas

Delivered first regional large scale project in Albany, Western Australia.

Moved into new premises in Cockburn to accommodate growing fleet of vehicles and personnel.

2014 Established internal training academy

Doubled personnel numbers; established internal training academy; introduced field mobility technology to improve workflow, drive efficiencies and reduce costs; undertook R&D internationally into industry best practice.

Finalist in the CCF Training Awards - finalists in Certificate III Trainee of the Year, Certificate IV Trainee of the Year, Individual Safety Contribution, Future Leader and Training Employer of the Year.

2015 Secured Kaizen

Initiated the development of field mobility technology to improve workflow, drive efficiencies and reduce costs.

Achieved third party certification: AS/NZS 4801:2001, OHSAS 18001:2007, ISO 9001:2008
ISO 14001:2004

Rebranded as UrbanGrid Australia.

Awarded Silver in the IFAP/CGU Safeway Awards for our Integrated Management System and recognition for six months LTI free within Communications, Gas Distribution and Administration workgroups.

Secured Kaizen with ATCO Gas Australia including South metropolitan Perth and Regional areas (Albany, Bunbury, Busselton, Harvey, Geraldton and Kalgoorlie).

2016 Further personnel growth

Doubled personnel in preparation for future contracts.
